Long Entry is Long

Well, with my birthday rapidly closing in, I figured I should tell you what I've been up to.

Mostly, it's been a lot of work. I've been covering for a lot of people, staying late and generally making myself useful at Barrington Saddlery. It's been cool though. I really love my job. I got to meet a famous dressage judge and trainer. I'm learning a hell of a lot every single day. I know my horse stuff, but I'm learning so much about show things. That's really where I don't know things.

Speaking of horses, Patience is doing well. The only thing bugging me about her right now is her tail. Okay, she's an Appaloosa and they're notorious for their short tails and ratty manes, but she has no tail, like none. I feel bad because she can't swat flies. When I go to get her at the bar, she's always twitching and having to reach back with her nose to get them. She's getting eaten alive! I'd put a fly sheet or fly boots on, but she's really good at getting those things off. Appaloosas are super smart.

I was shocked to discover that I never posted my polo pictures! A few weeks ago I went to polo club and got to meet offside_element and watch her play polo. I got to knock the ball around a little before a chucker (that's apparently what one polo match is called and I probably spelled it wrong) and it was kinda fun. I'm so out of practice when it comes to two-point. Darn dressage seat, making me lose my hunter skills.

I want to go back and do more, but my schedule hasn't allowed it. Stupid real life, getting in the way of my horse fun.

Enough rambling, here are polo pictures...Collapse )

My parents are off to France this week, leaving me home alone to take care of the dog and cats. My sister is staying in Indianapolis for our birthday and not visiting me after all. Basically, for the 4th and my birthday, I'm on my own. I did go to an awesome party at my barn on Saturday though. I had so much fun and got to see my horse while hanging out with barn people. We're such a goofy bunch. And apparently, we're getting a blog! I have no idea what's going on with that, I was working when there was a meeting about things, but it sounds awesome.

Construction has finally started on the indoor arena that we were supposed to get last year. I can sort of see how it's going to turn out and it's going to make the barn so different, but so awesome. I can ride in the winter now! Yay! Well, by the time winter rolls around, I'll be able to ride. It's not done yet.

In the writing world, I'm rather frustrated. I love my OCs, I put a ton of effort into them and they get ignored. I see so many Mary Sues and I know they're the reason none of my OCs get attention except from a few very select (and awesome) people. I don't mind my canon muses being more popular, but I just wish my OCs had the same popularity. A girl can dream can't she?

Also! It was totally awesome to see one of my favorite muses back in action again, even just for one thread. I love them, it was wonderful to play with them again. I still smile thinking about that thread. It really reminded me of why I love the RP friends I make. They're like my internet family.

Okay, I think I'm done...

Oh Yeah, This Journal

Haven't updated this in awhile huh?

Well, my job at Barrington Saddlery is going very well. They seem to like me a lot and they've given me plenty of hours. I have a nice set schedule and I'm learning a lot.

The only problem right now is that I'm sick. One of my co-workers had a cold and I caught it. It was so bad yesterday that work sent me home early yesterday. As soon as I got home, I took a nap. I still feel like crap today, but just like yesterday I'll go in to work and help out.

Other things going on in my life: my horse and I are gearing up for the summer heat and the bugs. I've got her stuff that should help her ears from being bitten to death by gnats. I don't have much time to ride, but I get out there when I can.

I've tinkered with jewelry lately but with being sick I'm probably just going to be a bum. I want to sleep again. Ugh.

At Last!

For those of you who don't know, I have a job and I had my first day today!

I'm working at Barrington Saddlery, where I buy almost all of my horse stuff. I'm just working sales and on the main floor and it's mostly like any other retail job, it's just horse related. It's a really nice job though. I'm a full time employee, I get benefits and a discount. It's so awesome.

My first day was really pretty simple. I did inventory all day. Not the most exciting thing, but I got a lot done. I felt accomplished for the first time in a long time. The people I work with are really nice too. Everyone's friendly and a little goofy. They're all horse people too and man, they know so much more than me. I know horse stuff, the basic stuff, the kind of stuff an owner needs to know but stuff about the show circuit and what's legal? Not a damn thing. I don't know how to fit boots or helmets. I don't know how to fit a saddle.

I've got so much to learn and I'm really excited to learn it. I love horse stuff. It's a really great job and I feel really lucky to have it.

Well, I have one. You people can figure out what to do with it, lol.

Cloudy With a Chance of Rain

I swear if it doesn't stop raining, I'm going to build an ark just in case. It's been like two weeks of cloudy skies, constant drizzles and some pretty epic storms. I think I've seen the sun only one day. The weather is warm, but I can't ride in the rain and the arenas are all muddy and slick. I'm stuck!

I haven't heard anything about my auditions. I check the email I gave them every day and I keep waiting for my phone to ring. I don't have a number to contact to ask what's going on. Sigh. But if I don't get in they said they're having try outs for an improv comedy group that I should get an email about. I'd love to do that. We'll have to see what the deal is though.

In other news... well I don't have much. I've done my usual job hunting, starting to write a few things again, and reading a book. Beyond that, the Moose is still stuck.

Should I get a tumblr?

You Know What Today Needs?

Bobby/Ellen OTP cuteness.

I'm doing something I haven't done in a long time. I'm auditioning.

The William Street Players are a local theater company and they're holding open auditions today and Wednesday. Since I can't seem to get a job, I'm going to audition and ask about behind the scenes work like building sets and stuff. I haven't done anything like this since high school.

I've just got to do two monologues under five minutes total. I've got a funny monologue and a dramatic one. I almost did the holy hand grenade speech from Monty Python and the Holy Grail but found something for theater instead. I just picked my monologues today too so I'm probably going to audition on Wednesday when I've had two days to memorize and practice.

Although, I've been practicing and memorizing since nine this morning so I've got them both pretty much down. Pretty much down isn't good enough though. I want them to be good, since I don't know if I can do flawless but I'll try.

I'm not nervous, yet. I'll probably get an attack of the nerves when I actually audition but right now this is just something to fill all my free time. I don't know what my chances are at getting it, so I'm not terribly invested in getting in either. I think that's an advantage. I'm not freaking out. Yay! Now that I've said that I'm going to lose my cool and freak. Whee!

Anyway, that's what's going on in the world of the Moose. There's also snow. Damn snow.

Going Western

Today was a bit of an adventure for the Moose. An expensive adventure as it turns out.

I left the house at 10 this morning to go to Barrington and a second hand tack shop. Turned out the tack shop didn't open until 12 so I had an hour and a half to kill. I ended up wandering around downtown Barrington. There weren't many shops open and there were a lot of empty stores too. It was still pretty entertaining and killed time.

I went to the tack shop to see if they had any second hand western saddles. I've been wanting a western saddle for awhile now, something I can use for trail riding mostly. I just haven't talked myself into it until now. I love my dressage saddle, but it's just not good for tails. There's not enough saddle and it's certainly not comfortable enough for long trails. So, I thought if I buy used I won't feel so bad about spending all that money.

Well, the western saddles they had were all too small for me. None of them really fit me right at all which was annoying. But they suggested another local tack store and I went. It was the same problem, they had used saddles but they weren't my size. I finally said fuck it and asked about new saddles. They were not as expensive as I thought they would be so I picked a basic model and got the saddle pad for it and brought it to the barn.

I have no idea how western saddles are supposed to fit. I know English saddles but I'm absolutely clueless about westerns. Luckily my barn manager is not and she was there to help me make sure it fit Patience. It does so I bought it. Now I've got a trail saddle that I'll probably use more than my dressage saddle. Although I do love me my comfy dressage saddle. Ah well, at least I can go trail riding with my barn friends this summer instead of having to bow out.

Horse back riding is an expensive hobby folks. Just keep that in mind.

Strike Out

Well, the Moose didn't get the job at the library which doesn't actually surprise me. After telling them I was considering graduate school and might be gone in a year I didn't think they were excited about me. Ah well. In the long run graduate school is more important.

I don't have much else to report. I'm going to attempt to write stuff again. There was a writer's block thing a few days ago that intrigued me. I might try that even though I have a long list of prompts waiting for attention.

I did figure out why I might have been tired all yesterday. I haven't had soda in like two days so my body is probably going through withdrawal. I'll get used to it if I continue the no soda thing. I'm going to need lots of juice though. I already have plenty of tea. Mmmm, tea.

Wasted Two Hours Already

Bah. After two hours of struggling to fill some prompts, I'm giving up. My muse just doesn't want to write right now. Maybe it'll feel like it tomorrow.

Well, my interview with the library people was rather short but it seemed like that's what they were going for. I think everyone got like fifteen minutes or something. The person before me was well dressed, but the two people after me were high school kids in skinny jeans and t-shirts. Hopefully that makes me look better since I wore a nice suit and looked professional. I'm supposed to hear from them sometime this week. I've got my fingers crossed.

The more I look over the GRE stuff, the more I freak myself out. The math part scares the hell out of me. I don't remember ever learning some of this stuff! I seriously need a tutor if I'm going to do well on this test. I'm not going to take it for awhile but holy hell, that's a scary looking test.

Besides that I don't have much to say. I got the cats to the vet without anyone getting seriously injured. They're both pretty healthy except one who has arthritis and the other is overweight. Now I've got to get an appointment for my dog and I should probably get Patience a check up but I'll first check to see if the vet is coming out to the barn anytime soon.

Now I'm going to try and find something to do since writing isn't working out. Maybe I'll tinker with jewelry.
